At the end of last year, Fortune magazine named Reed Hastings, Netflix CEO, as the 2010 Business Person of the Year. The competition included Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg and Alan Mullally. You can read the article here.
In 2009, Reed Hastings released a PowerPoint presentation call “Freedom and Responsibility Culture.” This 128-page slide deck is half philosophy and half employee handbook. Here is the link to the presentation.
Read it. Ask yourself if this is a place you would like to work?
Steffan Antonas said of the slide deck in his blog:
“At it’s core this new cultural framework requires a simultaneous top-down and bottom-up infusion of values. Making it work is about getting managers figure out how to get great outcomes by setting the appropriate context, rather than by trying to control their people, as well as about building teams of self motivating, self-aware, self disciplined, self improving people who take ownership and responsibility and are willing to work cross functionally when challenges arise.”
It seems to me that Netflix is a great place to work. Let me know what you think.
