Be Prepared Isn't Just a Boy Scout Thing

Recently, I was surprised by an unscheduled telephone interview. I was expecting a personal call when I was called by a recruiter to discuss my job application. Because the call was unexpected, not only was I not prepared, I wasn't really sure what job application the recruiter was referencing. I muddled through the phone screen and I sure I didn't put my best foot forward. No call back as of today.

Lessons Learned:
If you get an unannounced telephone interview, ask the recruiter to call back in 15 minutes. This will give you time to quickly review your application and job requirements.

If the time is not convenient, then ask the recruiter to call back at a better time. Trying to accomplish an interview without understanding which job they discussing is setting you up for failure.

Be Prepared! Be ready to give your pitch at a moment’s notice.

Let me know what you think.
